A four-year letterman and four-time all-conference selection as a member of the Illinois College football team. Thompson was a four-time all-conference selection as a defensive end and a three-time pick as a punter. He twice served as team captain. He owns several Illinois College football records including tackles for loss in a game, season and career; sacks in a game, season and career; and forced fumbles in a career.
