Marissa competed at IC in the sports of cross country and track & field. She earned 10 varsity letters over the course of her career and four MVP awards. She received All-Conference 11 different times and was a MWC Champion six times. During her first year, Marissa received many team awards such as “Most Versatile”, “Most Progress” and “BFS” (a weight lifting achievement award) with the track & field team. During her sophomore year, she was named team captain and team MVP of the Lady Blues cross country team. Marissa was a repeating champion placing first in the long jump and the 400-meter hurdles during her junior and senior seasons. During her senior season she earned All-Conference in every event she competed in both during indoor and outdoor track & field. She qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship placing 16th in the long jump in 2006.  Marissa currently holds the IC record for the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.40) and ranks fourth in the long jump (18-5.75).
