A standout member of the IC track squad, earned four letters and served as team captain his senior year. In naming the career administrator to the Hall of Fame, members of the selection committee cited Dr. Gibson’s six decades of dedicated service on behalf of his alma mater. Before embarking on a long tenure in higher education administration, Dr. Gibson coached cross country and track at Jacksonville High School from 1930-37. During that time, he also coached the JHS debate squad to five state titles. Dr. Gibson earned his master’s degree and Ed.D at the University of Missouri. Served on the administrative staff at MacMurray College from 1937-50 and later was a vice president and assistant to the president at Illinois State University from 1950-72.
