MT. VERNON, Iowa –
Melvin Hodge won the hammer throw, and the Illinois College men's track and field team is in first place after the first day of the Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday at Ash Park.
IC leads the team standings with 43 points. Lawrence is in second with 42, and Monmouth is in third at 38.
Hodge won his title in the hammer throw with a Midwest Conference Championship record toss of 58.89 meters.
IC also got second-place finishes from
Deon Rodgers in the discus (49.02 meters) and
Jaden Saunders in the long jump (6.69 meters). The Blueboys had fourth-place finishes from
Ben Replogle in the long jump (6.54 meters) and
Camden Pierce in the pole vault (3.65 meters).
In the preliminaries, the Blueboys'
Adam Hernandez posted the fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles and the second-fastest in the 400-meter hurdles.
Sam Stimler cruised to the fastest 200-meter time, with
Kani Carson finishing with the second-best time.
Carson and Stimler will also be the third- and fourth-seeds, respectively, in the 100-meter finals tomorrow.
