Anderson Named Newcomer of the Year, Women Finish Fourth at MWC Indoor Championships

RIPON, Wis. – Deja Anderson was honored by the league and the team finished fourth at the annual Midwest Conference Indoor Championships that concluded on Saturday at The Field House on the campus of Ripon.

Anderson was named the conference's Newcomer of the Year after being a member of the conference title winning 4x200 meter relay team and finished second in the long jump, third in both the 60 and 200 meter dashes.

The Lady Blues finished the championships in fourth place with a total 96 points. Ripon won the title with 135.5.

Saturday's performances were highlighted by a pair of second place finishes from Mattie Brown who was second in the 60 meter dash in 7.92 seconds and Aleese Trimingham who was the runner-up in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.40 seconds.

Anderson's third place finish in the 60 meter dash came in 7.95 seconds and Haley Garrett was seventh in 8.13 seconds.

The 200 meter dash saw three Lady Blues in the top six. Along with Anderson (26.54 seconds), Garrett was fourth in 26.63 and Fynesse Jones sixth in 27.07.

Maddie Benson finished sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.13 while Maddison Dortch took eighth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:32.73.

Sydney Kuper took third in the weight throw with a toss of 14.71 meters. She also finished seventh in the shot put at 10.82 meters.

IC had a pair of fifth place finishes in two relays. The 4x400 meter relay team of Apiphany Patterson, Benson, Trimingham, and Brooke Oakley clocked a 4:14.82 performance. The distance medley relay squad of Morgan Carrino, Patterson, Kairy Mercado-Ramos, and Dortch finished in 13:48.10.
