NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College swimming teams dominated a dual meet with North Central College on Saturday afternoon. The men's team was a 56-26 winner over the Cardinals while the women's team won by an even wider margin, taking down North Central by a score of 62-19.
The day began with a pair of relay victories for Illinois College. The women's 400 Medley Relay team of
Lindsay Bruce,
Hannah Marks,
Kate Edelstein and
Marjori Russo had a comfortable 24-second victory in 4:30.03. The men's team of Marty Ambre, Colin Williams, Steven Lorett and Jake Howey just missed breaking the four-minute mark, finishing with a winning time of 4:00.15.
Heading into individual events,
Jacquelin Castellon won the 1000 Freestyle in 12:44.29.
Cassie Reeve was not far behind in second place with a 12:53.39 finish. Myles Genrich won the men's 1000 Freestyle by well over a minute, clocking an 11:16.82.
Edelstein (2:13.35) and Howey (1:53.51) followed that with victories in the 200 Freestyle. In the 50 Freestyle, Russo just edged out her teammate Bruce with a winning time of 28.18. Bruce finished in 28.26 seconds.
Illinois College posted another event sweep in the 200 IM. Marks won the women's race in 2:22.77 and Williams won the men's event in 2:12.07. Two more victories for the Blueboys followed in the 100 Butterfly for Lorett (58.74) and for Howey in the 100 Freestyle (53.86).
Leading up to the final relay of the day, Illinois College won five straight events down the stretch. Edelstein (1:08.31) claimed the 100 Backstroke, as did Williams (1:01.41) for the Blueboys. Castellon added her second event victory of the day in the 500 Freestyle (6:11.62), with Ambre getting in on the act for the men's side with a time of 5:13.57. The final individual victory for IC came from Marks in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:10.15.
Ending the day with the 400 Freestyle Relay, the Lady Blues posted a win of almost 15 seconds as Castellon, Edelstein, Bruce and Russo swam a 4:18.95. The Blueboys won their race by 19 seconds as Lorett, Howey, Williams and Ambre posted a 3:35.66.
Illinois College heads to the Principia Invitational on Jan. 25, with competition in Elsah, Ill. getting underway at 1 p.m.
