GRINNELL, Iowa – The Illinois College men's and women's swimming & diving teams matched their best-ever finishes at the Pioneer Invite. The Lady Blues finished in fifth place with a record 305 points for the two-day event. The Blueboys were in sixth with 248 points.
Both teams had multiple new entries into the school record book on Wednesday. The highlight came from
Hannah Marks as she established a new school record in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:02.30. Marks also recorded the second-fastest 100 IM ever for the Lady Blues, ending as the runner-up in the event with a time of 1:04.36.
Other performances of note for the Lady Blues came from
Donna Jenkins in the 1-Meter Diving competition. The sophomore had the second-most points ever in the event with a score of 327.90. The women's 800 Freestyle Relay also had a big showing as
Nicole Homann,
Marjori Russo,
Kate Edelstein and Marks combined for a time of 8:49.51, the second-best time ever in that event.
The men's 800 Freestyle Relay also had a solid showing, registering the fifth-fastest time in program history with Myles Genrich, Colin Williams, Jake Howey and Marty Ambre clocking in at 7:40.81.
Individually, Davide Sanna missed tying the school record in the 100 Butterfly by .01, finishing the event with a time of 54.81. Williams also had the fifth-fastest 200 Backstroke ever for the Blueboys with a time of 2:09.50.
Illinois College comes home to Coultas Natatorium next weekend to wrap up action in the 2019 calendar year. The IC Winter Invitational will take place on Dec. 14 starting at 1 p.m.
