Lady Blues Third, Blueboys Fourth at Monmouth Invite

Against two of the top programs in the Midwest Conference, Hannah Marks was once again able to prove her dominance in the 100 Breaststroke.

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Illinois College men's and women's swimming teams took part in their first multi-team invite of the season on Saturday afternoon at Monmouth College. The Lady Blues finished in third place out of four teams with 73 points, while the Blueboys were fourth on the men's side with 60 points. Monmouth, Grinnell College and Lake Forest College were the other teams in action on Saturday.

Illinois College ended the day with one event victory, three third-place finishes and six fourth-place finishes. Hannah Marks once again topped her Midwest Conference foes in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:10.47.

In the day's first event, the men's 200 Medley Relay team of Kaden Canales, Colin Williams, Steven Lorett and Owen Sheridan finished in third place with a time of 1:51.81. In individual events, Marks was third in the 200 IM with a 2:23.55 and Hannah Baker clocked a 1:06.72 in the 100 Backstroke.

The majority of the top finishes IC had on the day were fourth-place showings. The women's 200 Medley Relay of Baker, Marks, Nicole Homann and Marjori Russo swam a 2:01.62. Russo was also fourth in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 58.79. Over on the men's side, fourth-place finishes came from Lorett in the 100 Butterfly (57.08) and Marty Ambre in the 500 Freestyle (5:09.46)

The final event of the day was the 400 Freestyle Relay. Both Illinois College teams also finished fourth in those two races. The men's team of Lorett, Jake Howey, Williams and Ambre combined for a 3:30.82 while the women's team of Russo, Lindsay Bruce, Homann and Marks clocked in at 4:01.52.

On Nov. 16, Illinois College will host Monmouth for a dual meet at Coultas Natatorium beginning at 1 p.m.
