RIPON, Wis. – Four different players found the back of the net to spur the Illinois College men's soccer team to a 4-1 road victory on Saturday at Ripon College. The Blueboys improve to 7-6-1 (2-2-1 Midwest Conference) on the season and send the reeling Red Hawks to 2-11-2 (0-5-1 MWC).
Three points will be at a premium every time out the rest of the way for Illinois College, and the Blueboys wasted little time staking their claim to them on Saturday. Less than 90 seconds into the match,
Nick Copley found the bottom right corner of the net with Jimmy Amedeo pulled away from goal to put the Blueboys ahead.
Ryan May assisted on the goal.
Illinois College continued to pepper Ripon with shots. The all-important second goal came in the 38th minute as freshman
Ryan Kruger scored the first goal of his collegiate career off of a
Spencer Bloome pass, sending IC to the break with a two-goal advantage.
Just past the hour mark,
Bohlt Hamrick essentially ended any hopes of a Ripon comeback.
Brock Ziegemeier crossed a ball in and Hamrick re-directed it into the corner for a 3-0 lead.
Thomas Saitta continued the offensive fireworks with a shot from the top of the box to the upper-right corner in the 79th minute for a 4-0 edge. The Red Hawks were able to salvage something from the match with an 81st minute goal from Max Mindiola.
Copley, Kruger and Ziegemeier all had two shots apiece in the match to lead IC, all of which were on-target.
Ty Clearwater made three saves on the afternoon, while his replacement for the final minutes,
Raul Rubalcava, also made a save.
Due to the poor weather throughout much of the Midwest, Illinois College will not be able to play Beloit College on Beloit's home field tomorrow as originally scheduled. The Blueboys and Buccaneers will move the match to Rockford, Ill. for an 8 a.m. start at Sportscore.
