Lady Blues Finish Second at MWC Championships

MT. VERNON, Iowa
– The Illinois College women's track and field team finished second in the team standings of the Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships, which concluded on Saturday at Ash Park.

The Lady Blues finished with 160 points. Grinnell won the title with 178, and Cornell was third with 119.

IC had three individuals win five combined titles on the day, led by Aleese Trimingham, who was named the 2026 Conference Track Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. Trimingham won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.41 seconds and followed that with a title in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.93. 

Haley Garret was also a two-time champion. She won the 100 meters in 12.39 seconds and then took the 200 meter title in 25.47 seconds. 

The Lady Blues' other champion was Riley Gardner, who claimed the high jump, clearing 1.68 meters.

IC's 4x100-meter relay team of McKenzie Murray, Fynesse Jones, Garrett, and Deja Anderson brought home the title after posting a time of 47.78 seconds. 

The 4x200-meter relay team of Kami Rhoades, Murray, Claire Peters, and Trimingham placed second in 4:06.88.

Garret had company in both the 100 and 200 meters. In the 100, Anderson was second (12.51 seconds), and Murray was fourth (12.58). In the 200, Murray took second (25.73 seconds), and Jones fourth (26.16 seconds).

Rhoades placed third in the 400 meters in 1:00.81.

In the field events, along with Gardner, Deniyah Lockman was third in the triple jump (10.83 meters). Ellie Bartling was fourth in the discus (37.24 meters) as was Natalie Hasting in the hammer throw (44.87 meters). Delanie Teno rounded out IC's field event performances with a fifth-place showing in the shot put (11.84 meters).
