Lady Blues Crown Two Champions at MWC Meet

MT. VERNON, Iowa
– The Illinois College women's track and field team crowned two champions on the first day of the Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday at Ash Park.

IC is currently in third place in the team standings with 34 points. Grinnell leads with 45, and Ripon is in second with 35.

The Lady Blues' two champions came in the field events. Keyleigh Thomas won the javelin with a toss of 41.46 meters. Deja Anderson also took the title in the long jump with a leap of 5.49 meters.

Elaina Manuel was fourth in the javelin (33.34 meters), as was Fynesse Jones in the long jump (5.10 meters).

In the preliminary events, IC will be seeded 1-2-3 in both the 100- and 200-meter finals tomorrow. In the 100, Haley Garrett, Anderson, and McKenzie Murray will hold the top three seeds. In the 200, Garrett, Murray, and Jones will be the top three in the 200.

Aleese Trimingham also posted the fastest preliminary times in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles, while Kami Rhoades had the third fastest time in the 400 meters.
