GRINNELL, Iowa – Illinois College's Melvin Hodge has been named the Midwest Conference Men's Field Performer of the Week, the league announced today.
A senior from Moro, Ill., who was an All-American during the indoor season in the weight throw, Hodge opened the outdoor season by winning the hammer throw at Millikin's Big Blue opener on Saturday with a school-record toss of 57.11 meters (187' 4"). Along with setting the school standard, his throw from Saturday currently ranks sixth nationally as well.
IC will host its annual outdoor meet on Thursday at England Stadium. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m. with running events starting at 1:00 p.m.
