Saunders Title Leads Blueboys at IWU

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.
– Illinois College men's track and field's Jaden Saunders captured the long jump to highlight IC's effort at Illinois Wesleyan's Jason Dennis Memorial at the Shirk Center Indoor Track.

Saunders won the title with a leap of 6.66 meters. His mark is the second-best jump in the Midwest Conference to date.

The Blueboys also had a pair of second-place finishes in the field events. Jacob Kollman was second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.05 meters. while Melvin Hodge was second in the weight throw with a toss of 17.09 meters. Hodge was joined by Deon Rodgers, who was third at 16.97 meters, and Thomas Pena, who took fourth with a throw of 15.23 meters.

Alex Rood was third in the shot put (14.46 meters) while Rodgers was fourth (14.27 meters).

On the track, IC's Kani Carson took second in the 200 (22.92 seconds) and 400 meters (52.10 seconds) while Ki'on Carson was second in the 60 meters with a time of 7.11 seconds.

The Blueboys got a school-record performance from from Robby Biesenthal in the 5,000 meters in 15:51.02, which was good for third place, while Nick Hannig was fourth in 16:09.86. Jamie Hendrix rounded out IC's top five finishes with a fifth-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles (9.07 seconds).

Up Next
The Blueboys are back at home and will host the annual Jim Green Invitational on Saturday, February 7th, inside King Fieldhouse. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
