BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –
Melvin Hodge set a school record to highlight the Illinois College men's track and field team's opening night of the season at the Illinois Wesleyan First Chance Meet on Friday at the Shirk Center Indoor Track.
Hodge won the weight throw with a school record toss of 18.85 meters. He also finished third in the shot put with a 13.38-meter mark.
Deon Rodgers took second in the weight throw (16.46 meters).
IC went 1-4 in the shot put as
Alex Rood led the way with a mark of 15.19 meters, the third-best effort in school history.
Thomas Pena took second in the shot put (14.92 meters), and Rodgers was fourth (13.70 meters).
Jaden Saunders was a champion for the Blueboys, winning the long jump with a leap of 6.60 meters.Â
IC also got top-five field event finishes from
Adam Hernandez in the high jump (3rd – 1.85 meters) and
Jacob Kollman in the triple jump (4th – 13.34 meters).
On the track, Hernandez was second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.73 seconds while
Jamie Hendrix was fourth in 9.26 seconds.
