GRINNELL, Iowa- The Illinois College men's and women's track & field teams traveled to Grinnell College for the MWC Championship this weekend. Both the men's and women's teams finished sixth overall with team scores of 62 points and 55.5 points.
The Blueboys were led by
Deon Rodgers being named the MWC champion in the discus with a mark of 151'2" (46.09 meters). Rodgers also finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 42'11.5" (13.09 meters).
Saul Hernandez was a standout placing second in the shot put throwing 46'2" (14.07 meters).
Jackson Lee also had an impressive day placing third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.57) and fourth in the pole vault (13'5.75", 4.11 meters).
The Lady Blues were led by
Nyasia Young claiming the MWC title in the triple jump with a mark of 35'4" (10.77 meters).
Paige Nowak led the team in the field events winning the MWC title in the pole vault after clearing a height of 10'5" (3.19 meters).
Other significant finishers included
Lakeida Nichols placing third in the 100-meter dash (12.55), and
Kristina Hilmes placing third in the 100-meter hurdles (16.52).
Both teams will look ahead to compete in the Augustana Midwest Twilight Meet on Thursday, 5/18.
