JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College athletics department has named
Dirk Doehring the interim head coach for the men's and women's track & field teams. Doehring takes the place of nine-year head coach
Jason Haynes.
Haynes has been a fixture at Illinois College for close to a decade. He has experienced a lot of success totaling over 100 All-Conference performers and over 180 Academic All-Conference honorees. He has coached multiple athletes who have made an appearance on the national stage in indoor and outdoor track. Most recently,
Will Ross was named the NCAA Division III champion in the triple jump in the 2022 outdoor season. Haynes is an alumni of Illinois College from the class of 2009 and will be stepping away to pursue a career outside of coaching.Â
"I would like to thank IC for giving me the opportunity to lead the teams that meant so much to me as an athlete. It's incredibly difficult to step away from coaching and Illinois College, but I'm excited to be able to spend more time with my girls while still being the team's biggest fan!" said Haynes.
Doehring is in his eighth season as a member of the IC coaching staff in the 2022-23 season. Before his time at Illinois College, he was a volunteer assistant coach for two seasons with the University of Illinois and the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at Millikin University for two seasons. Doehring has coached multiple successful athletes at IC including
Andrea Hyde who made multiple appearances in the indoor and outdoor national championships in sprinting events. Doehring graduated from Millikin University in 2002 and received his master's degree from Defiance College in 2010. He has a USATF Level One Certification and a USTFCCCA Jumping Events Specialist Certification.Â
"First, I would like to thank Meghan for trusting me to lead the track & field programs as the interim head coach this spring. I am excited to continue to build upon the foundation that Jason has laid and am looking forward to continuing our chase for a conference championship!" said Doehring.
