All-Region Teams
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Illinois College had three players earn All-Region IX honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), the organization announced.
The Lady Blues'
Jordan Closs and
Ezzy Mauermann were named to the first team while
Cambria Currie earned second-team accolades.
Closs is a senior pitcher from Niantic, Ill., who was also named the Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Year and first-team All-Conference for the second consecutive season. She set a school record with 15 victories in the circle this season and finished her final campaign with a 15-4 record and a 1.56 ERA. She posted 112 strikeouts in 139 innings of work.
Mauermann, a sophomore centerfielder from Glendale, Wis., led the team with a .398 average and eight home runs. She drove home 28 and stole 22 bases in 24 attempts. She was a first-team All-Midwest Conference pick this season.
Currie is a sophomore from McLeansboro, Ill, and made the second team as a utility player. She batted .357 with 12 RBI and 17 stolen bases. In the circle, she went 10-5 with a 2.27 ERA and recorded 61 strikeouts in 86 1/3 innings and was a first-team All-Midwest Conference honoree as well.
The Lady Blues finished the season with a school record 34 wins and won both the Midwest Conference Regular Season and Postseason Tournament titles. IC reached the NCAA Regionals for the third time in program history and won a game for the second time ever.
The NFCA All-Region distinction honors student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions, with selections made to one of three teams. Head coaches who are NFCA members nominate and vote for the honorees in their respective regions.
