GRINNELL, Iowa – Coy Dettmer has been named the Midwest Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the league announced today.
Dettmer, a junior from Silvis, Illinois, and a transfer from Spoon River Community College, earns the first weekly honor of his career at Illinois College.
Dettmer earned the award after making two appearances on the mound during the Blueboys' spring trip, going 1–0 with a save across 7.0 innings of work. He allowed just three hits and one run while striking out 12 batters, averaging more than 1.7 strikeouts per inning.
Dettmer picked up the win against Dubuque, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings while allowing only one hit and striking out five in relief. He followed that performance by recording the save in a victory over Saint Mary's (Minn.), striking out seven batters over the final 2.2 innings to secure the win.
The Blueboys will face Principia tonight at 5:30 p.m. in St. Louis following their spring break trip to Florida. The game was originally scheduled for tomorrow at 5:00 p.m., but it was moved up to this evening due to the forecast for tomorrow night.
