Lady Blues Drop Pair on Final Day of Illinois College Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College volleyball team wrapped up play at the Illinois College Invitational on Saturday, squaring off with Nebraska Wesleyan in the morning and Central College (Iowa) in the afternoon. The Lady Blues battled in both matches but came up short, closing out the two-day event on their home court.

The Lady Blues are now 4-8 on the season as they are nearing conference play beginning. 

Match 1: Neb. Wesleyan 3 IC 1
Illinois College dropped its morning match up with the Prairie Wolves by scores of 19-25, 25-19, 19-25, and 12-25.

Elliana Huckstep led the offense with seven kills while adding two blocks. Mady Salisbury turned in a strong effort defensively with 15 digs and four service aces. Summer Brandis handed out 12 assists, and Haylie Orton contributed three blocks at the net.

Match 2: Central 3 IC 1
The Lady Blues came out strong in their afternoon contest, taking the first set 25-20, before Central rallied to win the next three frames 27-25, 25-12, and 25-18.

Laura Kaiser had a standout performance with nine kills on a .389 hitting percentage and added a block. Riley Drake notched another double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs, while Salisbury anchored the back row again with 21 digs. Setters Summer Brandis and Liv Cox combined for 32 assists to pace the attack.

The Lady Blues head to UW-Whitewater for the Whitewater Invite beginning on Friday against Rose-Hulman scheduled for 7:00pm.
