GRINNELL, Iowa – The Illinois College men's swimming and diving team finished fourth in the final standings, and head coach
Christopher Sykes was named the Coach of the Year during the final day of the Midwest Conference Championships at the Russell K. Osgood Pool and Deck/Natatorium.
The Blueboys had five top-10 finishes on the day.
Cade Emerick and
Xaiver Applegate got things started for IC by finishing seventh and 10th respectively in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Emerick posted a time of 18:05.68 while Applegate finished in 19:24.42.
John Masiliunas took seventh in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:59.29 while Applegate was 16th in 2:18.59.
IC's
Nathen Trachta finished eighth by clocking a 2:02.31 in the 200-yard butterfly.Â
The Blueboys also had
Eli Eberle (47.55 seconds) and
Scottie Nicotra (47.71 seconds) finish 12th and 14th in the 100-yard freestyle while
Blaine Gretencord (2:39.95) was 14th in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Eberle, Masiliunas, Trachta, and Nicotra took home fifth place with a 3:15.00 showing.
Sykes was named the conference's Coach of the Year after leading the Blueboys to an undefeated dual season and the fourth place finish over the weekend.
