JACKSONVILLE, Ill- The Illinois College Esports team took on Michigan State last night in an MEC SSBU match, but came up short dropping the contest 6-0. This was the first SSBU match for the 2025 season for IC after coming off an 8-4 2024 fall season.
The SSBU MEC team put up a strong fight against Michigan State University but ultimately fell short in a 6-0 loss. The match began on a high note as
Jake Petrovich, playing Marth, secured a solid 3-1 victory over J3T's Meta Knight. However, Michigan State responded by sending in Fair on Banjo & Kazooie, who edged out Petrovich 2-1.
Looking to reclaim momentum,
Noah Horsman entered with Little Mac but suffered a tough 0-3 defeat, followed by
Theo Biela's 0-3 loss on Incineroar.
Julian Luaders stepped up with Mewtwo and managed to eliminate Fair in a close 2-2 battle, but Michigan State countered with Aster on Greninja, who took Luaders down 1-1.
Daniel Scott gave the team a much-needed boost with an impressive 2-1 victory on Jigglypuff against Aster, but Michigan State had the final answer in Zammo's Little Mac, who closed out the match with a 2-0 win to secure the series.
