JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The Illinois College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and several student organizations spread Halloween cheer this season by hosting two community events – The Bruner Boo Walk, a family-friendly celebration at the Bruner Center, and a special visit to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
The events brought together Illinois College students from multiple sports and student organizations to engage with children and families through costumes, games, crafts, and treats. At the Bruner Center, students organized a "Bruner Boo Walk" event featuring themed activity stations, treats, and interactive games designed to promote fun and connection between the college and local community.
Earlier in the day, a group of Blueboys and Lady Blues visited St. John's Hospital, where student-athletes participated in a reverse trick-or-treating event, delivering Halloween goodie bags and spending time with young patients and their families. The visit aimed to bring the spirit of the season to children unable to participate in traditional Halloween festivities this year.
"Our student-athletes truly value opportunities to give back and connect with the community," said IC Director of Athletics
Meghan Roman. "These events remind us that the lessons learned through sports — teamwork, empathy, and leadership — extend far beyond the playing field."
The Illinois College SAAC, composed of representatives from each varsity team, plays an active role in campus leadership and community engagement throughout the year. The Halloween events reflect the group's mission to enhance the student-athlete experience while fostering meaningful service initiatives in the region.
