Lady Blues Split a Pair in Millikin Invitational Opener


DECATUR,Ill- The Illinois College volleyball team split a fair on the opening night of the 2024 Millikin Invitational. The Lady Blues started off the tournament with a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-18, 25-18) over Anderson University. They would drop the second contest of the night to the host, Millikin, in three sets (25-20, 25-12, 27-25).

This moves IC to 5-7 on the season, Anderson moves to 6-1, and Millikin moves to 11-2.

Match 1: IC 3 Anderson 0

An overall strong performance for the Lady Blues as three players led the team with seven kills in the match including, Alyssa Burglund, Ella Ausmus, and Ligaya Garibay. Summer Brandis and Kahli O'Neal added 23 assists between the two of them as both also recorded two aces on the match.

IC led Anderson to a .019 hitting percentage in the match as they ended with 23 attacking errors.

Match 2: IC 0 Millikin 3

Millikin was ranked 11th in the nation going into the match and continued their strong start to the season. IC was led by Ligaya Garibay and Riley Drake who had 19 kills combined out of the teams 27 total. Summer Brandis led the Lady Blues with 12 assists, and Kahli O'Neal picked up 11 herself. Riley Drake led defensively tallying 12 digs in the match.

Millikin ended the match with a .254 attack percentage including three players in the double digit kills column. Millikin was also able to add eight points off of blocks for an overall strong performance.

The Lady Blues are back in action at Millikin for two more matches including Franklin College and Hanover College.
