Box Score 1 KISSMIIEE, Fla. – The Illinois College women's softball team recorded its first victory of the season and then Mother Nature interfered and halted the second game on Sunday.
The Lady Blues earned victory number one of the season with an 8-1 win over Ursinus in the first contests of the day. IC was leading Dubuque 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning of the second game before heavy rain stopped the contests, three outs short of an official game. In the opener, the Lady Blues erupted for five runs in the opening frame. The big blow came on a two-run double by
Jaycie Edwards.
Elysia Hand had a run-scoring single and
Emma Hardiek drew a bases loaded walk to plate another. IC also scored on an error as well.
That was all
Julia Drake needed as she allowed two hits and a run with six strikeouts over her five innings of work.
The offense was paced by Edwards and
Claudia Adam who each drove in a pair of runs.
Calynn Gicante and Edwards each had two hits while
Cheyenne Anderson reached twice with a pair of walks.
Before the rains hit against the Spartans,
Kendall Cole was 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Gicante had a pair of hits and an RBI while
Taylor Henry scored a pair of runs and threw four innings in the circle with three strikeouts.
It will be a quick turnaround for IC as it will face Carlow tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. and Aurora at 12:30 p.m.
