Box Score 2 EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College softball team dropped its first two games of the season, falling to Hope, 5-4, in the opener and the University of Chicago, 9-1, in the nightcap on Saturday at Plummer Family Park.
In the opener, Hope rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to record the final margin of victory.Â
Cheyenne Anderson was the hitting star for the Lady Blues. She went 2-for-3 in the contests and drove in all for IC runs with a single in the fourth inning and a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give IC a 4-2 lead.
The IC offense got two hits apiece from Anderson,
Allison Mortland and
Calynn Gicante.
Julia Drake took the loss for the Lady Blues in the circle, allowing five runs on nine hits, striking out 10 with just one walk.
The nightcap saw Chicago score three times in the first, second and fourth innings. The lone IC run came in the fifth inning when Mortland singled to score
Elysia Hand.Â
Taylor Henry suffered the loss, throwing the first two innings.
Hannah Crouch finished the final two frames for the Lady Blues.
The IC offense was paced by Mortland who collected two of the team's five hits.Â
IC returns to action again tomorrow in Edwardsville as it faces Webster at 11:00 a.m. and Belhaven at 1:00 p.m.
