Esports Travles to First LAN Tournament of the Season

HAMMOND, Ind- The Illinois College Esports team traveled to Hammond, Indiana for the first LAN (local area network) tournament of the season. This tournament was hosted by Purdue Northwest and IC competed in Valorant, Overwatch, and SSBU. IC finished last for Valorant and Overwatch, and finished in 3rd place for SSBU out of 5 teams. 

Valorant
The Valorant team struggled in the tournament, finishing with a 0-3 record. They dropped their first-round match to Cornell College in a 13-1 defeat and were later eliminated by Simpson College. Columbia College emerged as the champion, sweeping Roosevelt University 2-0 to win the Valorant bracket.

Overwatch
The Illinois College Overwatch team struggled in this one as well dropping a first round match to Briar Cliff University 3-0, and then losing the first round in the lower bracket 3-0 to Indiana University. Briar Cliff University went on to win the Overwatch bracket 4-0 over Cornell College. 

SSBU
IC came out with a strong 2-0 win over the host, Purdue Northwest, but then fell to Miami University (OH) in the second round. In their climb back to the winners bracket, IC defeated Cornell College to take on Michigan State University, but were defeated in the game to move to the finals. Miami University (OH) went on to beat Michigan State 2-0 to claim the SSBU bracket. 

Jake Petrovich ended with a very impressive performance for IC in SSBU finishing in 2nd place in the SSBU singles tournament. Along with Petrovich, in the lower bracket match against Cornell, Julian Luaders won 10 stocks by himself to clinch a top 3 finish for IC.

The next LAN event for IC will be the MVEC Championship at Simpson College on April 5th and 6th.
