Lady Blues Pick Up First Conference Win

APPLETON, Wis- The Illinois College women's volleyball team traveled to Lawrence University to kick off Midwest Conference play on Friday and picked up the first conference win (3-1) over Lawrence.

This win moves IC to 9-10 on the season and drops Lawrence to 5-14.

Final Score: IC 3 Lawrence 1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21)

After a tough non-conference schedule for the Lady Blues, this win for IC is exactly what was needed to kick off the conference schedule strong. Despite dropping the first set of the match, the Lady Blues came back to win three sets in a row to take the match. 

Laura Kaiser got it going for IC leading with 16 kills for the Lady Blues on just 19 attempts finishing with a .842 hitting percentage. Ligaya Garibay once again remained strong for IC finishing with 13 kills and 7 digs on the match.

Summer Brandis led IC with 26 assists in the match followed by Kahli O'Neal with 17 assists. Alex Johnson finished with 2 of the 6 aces for Illinois College as well.

The Lady Blues finished with a .373 hitting percentage and despite Lawrence hitting .254 and Lawrence's Margaret Hanke ending with 21 kills, IC came out on top.

Blue Notes

Laura Kaiser has now broken the school record for hitting percentage in a match for at least 12 kills with her 16 kills on a .842 hitting percentage. This record was previously held by Sara Long in 2002 with a .783 hitting percentage.
