Women's Volleyball Sweeps On First Day of Home Tournament

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues started their 2023 campaign hosting the IC Home Volleyball Tournament. The team picked up two big wins on the first day of the tournament defeating Luther College 3-0 and Concordia Chicago 3-1. This advances the Lady Blues to 2-0 to start the season. 

GAME 1- Illinois College 3, Luther College 0

The Lady Blues started the tournament with a big sweep over Luther College 25-23, 25-18, 25-14. The team was led by Ligaya Garibay recording 13 kills in the contest. Summer Brandis was the team's assist leader with 25 against the Norse. 

Defensively, Jen Humbolt was the standout leading the team with 13 digs in the match. Alex Johnson was a difference maker as well recording four service aces. 

GAME 2- Illinois College 3, Concordia Chicago 1

The Lady Blues claimed their second win of the season after a competitive match with Concordia Chicago 25-27, 25-15, 25-21, 25-14. IC had two players reach double figures in kills in Paige Knuffman with 17 and Garibay with 10. Laura Kaiser was perfect on the day with seven kills on seven attempts. 

The team shined at the net defensively with Alyssa Burglund recording six block assists and one solo block. Kaiser added to the team total with five block assists and two solo blocks. 

The team will continue the IC Home Volleyball Tournament taking on Earlham College at 10:00 AM and Anderson University at 2:00 PM on Saturday, 9/2.
