JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues took on Anderson University and Westminster College on the second day of the IC Home Volleyball Tournament. IC earned a split falling to Anderson 0-3 and defeating Westminster 3-1. This improves the Lady Blues to 1-2 overall this season.
GAME 1- Illinois College 0, Anderson University 3
The Lady Blues started the day taking on the Ravens from Anderson University.
Paige Knuffman had a break-out game leading the team with eight kills in the match.
Alyssa Burglund followed with five kills.
Summer Brandis and
Morgan Burr both led the team in assists with 12 each.
Jen Humbolt was the standout on defense totaling a team-high 19 digs in the match. The Lady Blues remained competitive after losing the first set 25-19. The team was ahead 24-23 down the stretch after an attack error by the Ravens. Anderson would finish strong scoring three straight points to claim the set win. The Ravens would carry that momentum into the third set defeating the Lady Blues in a competitive match.
GAME 2- Illinois College 3, Westminster College 1
IC faced the Westminster Blue Jays in their second match of the day. The team suffered a loss in the first set 22-25 but was able to bounce back to win three straight 30-28, 25-23, 25-19.
The Lady Blues were led by
Maya Stovall and Knuffman each with an impressive 15 kills.
Laura Kaiser also reached double figures with 12 kills in the match. Burr was the team's leader in assists with 22 followed by Brandis with 20.
The turning point came in the second set with both teams tied at 27-27 after a kill by Kaiser. the Blue Jays jumped ahead 28-27 after a kill of their own. Then the Lady Blues put together three straight scores to claim the hard-fought victory in set two. IC would go on to win two highly competitive sets to claim the win over Westminster.
IC will return to action on the road against Webster University on Wednesday, 9/7 at 6:00 PM.
