JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues began their conference schedule hosting Grinnell College on Saturday. The team suffered a loss after five sets 25-23, 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 8-15. This drops the Lady Blues to 5-10 overall and 1-1 in the MWC.
Paige Knuffman was a standout for the Lady Blues on offense. She totaled a team-high 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .226.
Laura Kaiser (11) and
Macie Beer (10) were also able to finish the day with double figures in kills.
Morgan Burr was the team's leader with 22 assists in the match. Defensively,
Riley Brandenburg led the way with six blocks.
IC needed to earn a win in the fourth set to keep the match alive. The team was down 21-22 down the stretch. The Lady Blues were able to rally the next four points winning the set on a service ace by
Jen Humbolt. After a hard-fought battle, Grinnell was able to make a run late in the fifth set to claim the win over the Lady Blues.
The team will return to action hosting Wash U on Wednesday, 9/28 at 7:00 PM.
