JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues wrapped up their matches at the IC Volleyball Invitational with back to back sweeps defeating Blackburn College and Olivet College in straight sets. This puts the Lady Blues at 3-2 overall this season.
Game 1- Illinois College 3, Blackburn College 0
IC started the second day of the tournament taking on the Blackburn College Beavers. The team was able to come away with a sweep 25-20, 25-10, 25-23.
Brenna Dameris led the Lady Blues with 11 kills in the match.
Morgan Burr was also able to make an impact offensively recording 31 assists. The defense was led by
Jen Humbolt with 16 digs and
Faith Stallard with 14 digs.
The team found themselves in a close third set against the Beavers. IC stood ahead 24-18 looking for their final point to win the match. Blackburn would go on a run to decrease the deficit making the score 24-23.
Sam Sabo was able to seal the victory after an assist from Burr to give the Lady Blues their first sweep of the season.
Game 2- Illinois College 3, Olivet College 0
Illinois College was able to carry the momentum into their second match of the day earning a sweep against Olivet 25-17, 25-22, 25-18.
Abbie Horstmann led the team with 11 kills followed by
Reagan Gifford and Dameris with nine kills each. Burr led the team in assists totaling 32 in the match. Defensively, IC was led by Stallard with 10 digs.
The Lady Blues will return to action facing Webster University at home on Tuesday, 9/7 at 6:00 PM.
