JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues earned a big win at home defeating the Fontbonne University Griffins 25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 28-26. This improves the team to 2-4 overall this season.
Brenna Demaris had a great showing offensively recording 17 kills in the contest.
Abbie Horstmann was also able to make an impact offensively with 11 kills in the match.
Morgan Burr showcased her ability to set up her teammates totaling 38 assists on the night. The team was led by
Jen Humbolt defensively with 20 digs.
The Lady Blues would look to make a statement early in set one. After being tied 5-5 the Lady Blues were able to go on an 8-2 run to take a commanding lead over the Griffins. A kill by Dameris would give the team the first set victory with a final of 25-20.
After Fontbonne took set two, the Lady Blues looked to bounce back. After a back and forth contest, Illinois College would take control going on a 6-1 run to end the set with the win. This would put the team up 2-1 over the Griffins going into set number four.
The fourth proved to be competitive with both teams trading blows. Illinois College would pull of the victory after a kill by
Reagan Gifford on an assist by Burr helped them pull away 28-26.
The Lady Blues will be back in action this Friday, 3/26 on the road against Knox College at 6:00 PM.
