JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Esports team took on Drury University in their final match of the regular season. The team picked up the win 2-0 and now advances to postseason play.
Going into the final weekend of cLol matches the stakes could not have been higher. The game decided if IC would make playoffs in the second seed or spend the postseason out of playoff contention and a possible nation's appearance. Going into game one IC looked to pick up a strong early game with winning jungle and top matchups allowing them to accelerate to an early lead.
Although Drury looked for a counter pick to cvara's Galio in Taliyah, they could not find the opening to get the roam or the lane pressure leading them to fall behind in the mid game and opened up IC to take game one in just over twenty minutes.
Going into game two Drury was able to secure a strong power pick and flex in Tristana, however IC was able to answer with an equally strong jungle match up again with a winning top side that allowed the players to continue their explosive top lane strategy while
Tony Bautista-Foti "King Me" and
Sean Corley "ColdCottageKoala" were able to dominate the bot lane two vs two.
The early game snowballed into an eventual drake soul fight that ended with a five for zero fight in IC's favor, drake soul, and the nexus going to IC to take home the win again in just over twenty minutes. With that wrapping up the end of the season, IC takes home second seed going into the playoffs behind Grand View.
IC leads the regular season with
Dalton Swaino "Prankuru" leading the league at 57 kills followed by
Tony Bautista-Foti "King Me" at 50 kills.
Sean Corley "ColdCottageKoala" led the league with 98 assists while
Christian Varacalli "cvara" ranked third with 79 assists. Corley finished with the second most wards in the league at 307, and Swaino takes home second most gold per min at 396 gold per min. The team recorded the second highest team wide kda at 3.3.
