JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College Lady Blues prevailed in a thrilling five set match to earn their first victory of the year in their home opener against DePauw University 25-19, 26-24, 13-25, 23-25, 18-16. The Lady Blues now stand at 1-3 overall.
Abbie Horstmann led the team offensively with 16 kills and a .520 hitting percentage.
Morgan Burr was able to set up her teammates totaling 42 assists on the night. The team was led by
Jen Humbolt on the defensive end with 19 digs in the contest.
The Lady Blues would start off strong against the Tigers. They would end the first set on a 5-0 scoring run to earn the win in set one. Set two proved to be a back-and-forth contest with multiple lead changes. After being down 11-9, the Lady Blues would capture the momentum going on a 4-0 run to make the score 13-11. IC would go on to win the second set 26-24.
DePauw would bounce back to win the next two sets and tie the match 2-2. In the decisive fifth set, IC would take a commanding 10-4 lead. The Tigers would answer back to tie the set at 14-14. Consecutive kills by Horstmann would be the deciding factor to push the Lady Blues past the Tigers to earn the win.
The Lady Blues will host Greenville University on Monday, 3/15 at 7:00 PM.
