Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Softball team picked up a win in a close game against the Simpson College Storm on Sunday with a final of 8-7.
The Lady Blues faced Simpson College for the third time this season in their final game of the weekend. IC was able to strike first after a double by
Maddy Morgan forced in a run by
Madisyn Webster.
Simpson would earn two runs in the second, and IC would answer to take back the lead after a single by
Emily Baalman pushed in two runs by Morgan and Webster.
The Storm would put together an impressive fourth inning bringing in five runs to take control of the lead 7-3 over the Lady Blues.
The Lady Blues would look to get back into the game after recording two runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 7-5. Illinois College was able to get the bats going in the seventh to set themselves up for an opportunity for the win. Morgan would score at the beginning of the inning to bring the Lady Blues within one run of the tie.
Grace Braun was able to record a double that forced in a run by
Gabriela Argianas to tie the game 7-7.
Mariana Babic would then single to bring in the winning run by
Annie Schimpf. This would improve the Lady Blues to 3-3 overall on the season.
The second game of the evening against Fontbonne University was postponed. The next scheduled game for the Lady Blues will be a doubleheader at home against Millikin University on Friday, 3/7 at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
