Jacksonville, Ill.- The Illinois College men's and women's swim teams took to the water to face the Principia College Panthers on Friday afternoon. The Lady Blues were able to notch eight first place finishes to secure the victory by defeating the Panthers with a final score of 123-98. The
Blueboys earned their first victory of the season by securing eight event wins which lead to an eventual 82-49 victory.
The Lady Blues were led by Emily
Wickerham who won four total events.
Wickerham won the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:39.15 as well as the 100-butterfly (1:12.34).
Edelstein, Kenning,
Wickerham, and Russo won the 400-medley relay with a time of 4:37.70. The team featuring
Dann,
Wickerham, Russo, Kenning finished with a time of 1:50.69 to secure the 200-freestyle relay victory.
Kavanagh Larson had an impressive showing by winning two events. Larson swam a 2:09.52 to capture the 200-freestyle victory as well the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:41.03. Other event winners included
Jenna Kenning in the 100 backstroke (1:03.55) and
Majori Russo in the 100 freestyle (59.78).
The Illinois College men's team was able to secure their first win of the season. Steven
Lorett had a spectacular showing by winning three individual events and one relay event.
Lorett won the 200-butterfly (2:24.04), the 100 freestyle (54.30), and the 100-butterfly (1:00.25). The team's only relay victory was in the 200-freestyle relay (1:40.42) with the dynamic combination of
Sanna,
Genrich,
Lorett and
Howey.
Jake
Howey and
Davide Sanna both won two events.
Howey won the 1000 freestyle (10:51.61) and the 500 freestyle (5:14.27).
Sanna won the 50 freestyle (23.37) as well as the 200-backstroke (1:57.31).
The men's and women's squads will look to square off with the Principia College Panthers on the road on Friday, 3/5 at 10:00 AM.
