JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- Illinois College Esports competed in two competitions this weekend. The team was to split the contests defeating Drury University 2-0 and falling to Purdue University Northwest 0-2. This improved the team to 2-2 overall.
IC vs. Drury University, 2-0:
Kicking off Illinois College's entrance into the MEC Skirmish tournament the team was eager to start off on the right foot. Going into game one was explosive with first blood coming in at just two and a half min when Drury's junger flashed in on cvara to get first blood. IC was not put on the back foot however, rallying for a three vs three in the top side jungle punishing the early flash and jumping out to a one thousand gold lead at four minutes.
From there Illinois College took commanding position of the game losing only one tower and ending the game just after the 23 minute mark.
Going into game two Illinois College was hoping for more of the same and they delivered. Taking an incredibly strong tempo based draft Illinois College was able to force Drury's adc to flash level one leading to a 60 cs lead that persisted for the majority of the game. With the mid game starting to slow, Illinois College started looking for a way to break the game open. That opportunity was found at seventeen minutes and thirty seconds. Cvara hit a massive three man ult to solidify Illinois College's five thousand gold lead cementing their hold of the game ending the match in just twenty four minutes.
This takes Illinois College to 1-0 in the MEC Skirmish.
IC vs. Purdue University Northwest, 0-2:
Going into week three of MEC cLol tournament, the fight for second was on the forefront of everyone's mind. Going into game one Illinois College had a strong team fighting composition that they hoped to leverage into mid game to weather the strong laning and early game strength of Purdue's composition.
Unfortunately Purdue's bot lane used their explosive strength in yasuo and pike to open up the bot lane cracking bot outer tower. This put
Tony Bautista-Foti on a starting 0/5 going into mid game. Never a team to be down and out however, IC was able to find an opening after Purdue cracked the mid inhibitor. Realizing that they had not reset and were sitting on a large amount of gold, Illinois College looked for a team fight at seven thousand gold down.
Off an explosive team fight set up with a massive Gnar ult from
Dalton Swaino stunning three of Purdue's main carries, the team lead to a barron take. Unfortunately, after multiple team fight wins, Purdue was able to find a pick forcing a four vs five and winning the game at thirty four minutes.
Going into game two Illinois College drafted much safer lanes allowing them to hopefully leverage top lane leads into a larger game win. It was looking promising with Swaino on top getting a missive lead going 4/0 out of the laning phase. Purdue was not done. They were able to play through their strong side bot leveraging dragon soul to their advantage always being first to the objective. The game was eventually ended off the back of a thirty three minute elder dragon fight after Purdue had taken barron. This moves Illinois College to 1-2 after three weeks of MEC cLol play.
