JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College volleyball team hosted the Monmouth College Fighting Scots on Friday night. The team was able to earn a sweep after defeating Monmouth in three straight sets 25-19, 25-19, 25-20. This advances the Lady Blues to 7-10 overall and 3-2 in the MWC.
Jen Humbolt had an outstanding night defensively for the Lady Blues. She led the team totaled 39 digs averaging 13 digs per set. The team was led by
Reagan Gifford and
Brenna Dameris on the offensive end each totaling 11 kills in the match.
IC got off to a hot start jumping to a 5-0 lead in the first set. The team was able to maintain their lead to take the first set victory and jump ahead of the Scots 1-0. IC would then dominate in the second set, picking up the win after a kill by
Abbie Horstmann on an assist from
Morgan Burr. The third set proved to be a close one. The Lady Blues held a two point lead over the Scots 22-20. IC would score the next three points and win the match on a kill by Gifford to earn the conference victory.
The Lady Blues will travel to take on Knox College this Saturday, 10/9 at 1:00 PM.
