GRINNELL, Iowa – The Illinois College volleyball team began its first set of matches away from home on Friday with a split of two non-conference matchups. In the first match of the night, IC swept its fourth in a row over Bethany Lutheran College, winning 25-11, 25-17, 25-12. After a 4-0 start to the season, the Lady Blues were finally unseated by Buena Vista University 19-25, 21-25, 20-25.

Illinois College put on a clinic through the three sets against Bethany Lutheran; as a team, IC hit .228, much stronger than that of the .018 put up by the Vikings. The Lady Blues forced BLC into nine receiving errors, while not allowing a single ace.
Ali Pankey paced the Lady Blues with nine kills, while also assisting on a block.
Rebecca Shields poured in six kills for IC, adding three block assists.
Brenna Dameris tacked on seven kills.
Brooke Brandis supplied three of the five Illinois College aces.
Buena Vista 3, Illinois College 0
Pankey was able to up her kill total in the second match of the night to 11, but Buena Vista's Sydney McLaren was unstoppable, ending with 20 kills and a .528 hitting percentage. Brandis served up another two aces for Illinois College.
Maddie Ramsey contributed the lone solo block for the Lady Blues.
Elizabeth Ganley was perfect as a setter during the match, gathering 22 assists without recording a set error. One major downfall for the Lady Blues were the numerous blocking errors (eight) that IC suffered.
Action shifts to Central College in Pella, Iowa tomorrow. The Lady Blues first will face Central College at 10 a.m. before closing out the weekend with a 12 p.m. matchup against Crown College.
