Records Rain Down on Track & Field at Greenville Invitational

GREENVILLE, Ill.
– The Illinois College track & field team resumed the outdoor season on Saturday after an unexpected weekend off following the cancellation of the Lee Calhoun Invitational. The Blueboys set two new school records on the day, finishing sixth overall on the men's side. The Lady Blues ended in 11th place.

The Illinois College men's program set two new school records on Saturday, one individually and one from a relay. In the javelin, Brant Bess broke his own school record with a throw of 195-10 (59.69 meters). He now ranks 11th in the nation.

The other school record came from the 4 x 100 Meter Relay team of Nife Williams, Brett Peifer, Chris Moore and Greg Cross. They now rank first in the Midwest Conference and eighth nationally after registering a time of 41.85 seconds.

Cross and Peifer were also very busy with other sprint events. Cross ended as the runner-up in the 100 Meter Dash (10.91 seconds). He was also fourth in the 200 Meter Dash in 22.01 seconds, the fifth-fastest time in school history. Peifer was right behind Cross in fifth place with a time of 22.03 seconds. In the 400 Meter Dash, Peifer took third in 49.40 seconds, while Moore was seventh in 50.55 seconds.

In other men's events, Anthony Flores was fifth in the discus with a throw of 137-7 (41.95 meters). He also had the fourth-best hammer throw in school history with an effort of 159-1 (48.49 meters). Levon Hendricks took fourth place in the triple jump with a distance of 43-8.00 (13.31 meters). Moore was sixth in the long jump at 21-4.25 (6.51 meters). Sean Kisch finished eighth in the men's pole vault, clearing a height of 13-1.50 (4.00 meters). Finally, Nick Mucciante was sixth in the men's 110 hurdles with a time of 16.04 seconds.

Two performances from the Lady Blues found a home in the IC record books. Jenna Kennedy had the fifth-best hammer throw in school history with a distance of 132-03 (40.31 meters). The 4 x 100 Meter Relay team of Joselynn Allen, Bailey Leitschuh, Dazha Shelby-Woods and Andrea Hyde ended with the third-best time in program history, crossing the line in 49.47 seconds while finishing second overall in the event.

Hyde won the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 12.45 seconds, currently putting her in a tie for 37th nationally. She also came in fourth in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 26.40 seconds, while Leitschuh clocked a 26.63 to finish eighth. The 4 x 400 Meter Relay team of Allen, Leitschuh, Emily Woods and Madison Klanke also earned points for the Lady Blues, finishing seventh in 4:24.97.

Illinois College will compete on Friday the next two weeks. First up is a trip to the Rose-Hulman Twilight in Terre Haute, Ind. on April 20 starting at 4:30 p.m. (EDT).
