Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College baseball team couldn't keep up with a talented University of Chicago squad in a doubleheader at Joe Brooks Field on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons rode strong pitching and a potent offense to a 14-0 win in the opener and a 7-1 victory in the nightcap. IC falls to 8-6 overall on the season.

The Blueboys continue their home stand with a single, 9-inning game on Tuesday afternoon against Greenville University. First pitch is at 2 p.m.

Game One: University of Chicago 14, Illinois College 0
The University of Chicago took the lead on the very first pitch of the game and never looked back in a 14-0 win. Dylan Jones kept the Blueboys close until the fourth inning, but the Maroons piled on with five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding lead. Jones falls to 2-2 on the year.

With the wind blowing out, a lot of offense was expected in the first game. Connor Hickey didn't wait to take a pitch, swinging on the first pitch and blasting a solo home run over the wall in right for a 1-0 lead. The University of Chicago extended its lead to 2-0 on an Illinois College error in the third inning.

The Blueboys struggled against Chicago starter Brenton Villasenor, managing only three hits in the game. Two of those came in the first three innings but couldn't push anything across to cut into the Maroon lead.

The UC advantage became insurmountable after scoring five runs in the fourth inning and then plating another five in the fifth against Jones and reliever Ben Kettelkamp. The Maroons added two more in the sixth inning, scoring on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly for the final margin of victory.

Game Two: University of Chicago 7, Illinois College 1
The University of Chicago once again took the lead in the top of the first inning, then extended its lead to 7-0 after scoring three runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings. Illinois College pulled one run back in the bottom of the sixth, but stranded two runners and could get no closer. Austin Newton took his first collegiate loss, falling to 2-1 on the season.

Hickey was a thorn in the side of Illinois College for the second game running as he led off with a single, then stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Ian Bohn grounded out to Brandon Skovronski for the second out of the inning, but it was enough to bring Hickey in for a 1-0 lead.

The Maroons tacked on three runs in the fourth to increase their lead to 4-0. A two-RBI triple and a suicide squeeze bunt added three more in the fifth.

Joe Paparelli led the Blueboys with three hits in the game, and he led off the bottom of the sixth with a solid single through the left side. Austin Gusewelle singled to put two on, and the two then advanced on a wild pitch. Grant Argyilan scored Paparelli on a RBI groundout for IC's lone run of the game.

Ethan Crain held the Maroons in check late in the game, throwing two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh with a strikeout.
