JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – It was a big day in King Fieldhouse for the Illinois College track & field programs on Saturday as the Blueboys scored 96 points and topped 16 other teams to win the Jim Green Invite, while the Lady Blues took third out of 18 teams with 72 points. The team victory for the men was the first for the program since the Blueboys won the 2013 Alumni Classic.
There were five new additions to the Illinois College indoor record books, two of which came in Illinois College event victories.
Anthony Flores bettered his PR and had the third-best distance in school history, winning the men's weight throw with a heave of 51-3.25 (15.62 meters).
Chris Moore won the 200 Meter Dash and had the fifth-best time in school history, crossing the finish line in 22.72 seconds.
Also adding to the Illinois College record books were
Ashlyn Haage with the third-best 5,000 Meters ever (20:59.22),
Dazha Shelby-Woods with a runner-up finish in the triple jump that doubled as the fourth-best leap in school history (33-11.25, 10.34 meters), and
Emily Woods tying for first in the long jump and taking over fifth place all-time at IC with a leap of 16-7.75 (5.07 meters).
The Illinois College teams had numerous other top finishes on the day. In field events, Moore ended as the runner-up in the men's long jump with a distance of 21-6.75 (6.57 meters). A few spots behind Shelby-Woods,
Bailey Leitschuh took fifth in the women's triple jump at 33-5.25 (10.19 meters).
Levon Hendricks was the men's runner-up in the triple jump, posting a leap of 43-3.75 (13.20 meters).
Jenna Kennedy and
Amanda Boeckman were fourth and sixth, respectively, in the women's weight throw. Kennedy posted a distance of 43-7 (13.28 meters) and Boeckman was not far back at 42-6.5 (12.96 meters).
Sean Kisch also was fifth in the men's pole vault, clearing the bar at 13-7.25 (4.15 meters).
The Blueboys and Lady Blues had just as much success in track events.
Andrea Hyde produced the best time in the 60 Meter Dash in the prelims with a 7.90. In the finals, she edged out Culver-Stockton's Paige Bray by .05, winning in 7.94 seconds. On the men's side of the 60 Meter Dash,
Greg Cross and Nife Williams came in third and sixth in both the prelims and the final. Cross ran a 7.06 in the prelims and lowered it to 7.03 in the final. Williams had a 7.17 in the prelims and went 7.19 in the final.
Hyde also took second place in the 200 Meter Dash in 27.34 seconds.
Joselynn Allen was fifth overall in 27.54 seconds. For the Blueboys, four team members finished among the top six in the race. Moore's winning time put him in the IC record books, Cross was second in 22.74 seconds,
Brett Peifer was fourth in 23.04 seconds, and Williams was sixth in 23.18 seconds. In the men's 60 Meter Hurdles,
Ben Rakers, Kisch and
Dakota Stevens took the third, fourth and fifth spots in the prelims to qualify for the final. In the final, Rakers couldn't quite match his prelim time of 8.87 seconds, but still took third overall in 8.90 seconds. Kisch ended in seventh (9.24 seconds) and Stevens ended up in eighth (9.42 seconds).
Both Illinois College teams also had successful days in relay events with each team claiming victory in the 4 x 200 Meter Relay. For the Lady Blues, Allen, Leitschuh,
Alexa Walker and Hyde ran a 1:49.67 to win by about two seconds over a team from Webster University.
Olivia Molette, Shelby-Woods, Woods and
Madison Klanke took third in 1:54.65. On the men's side, Williams, Peifer, Moore and Cross took down a Webster team by more than two seconds with a time of 1:31.11. IC's 'B' team of
Rylan Hynek,
Dominic Aiello,
Michael Nolte and
Lucas Motley ended in fourth place in 1:34.88.
In the 4 x 400 Meter Relay, Peifer, Hynek,
Jaxon Rieke and Moore finished third in 3:28.34. Woods, Molette, Walker and
Ali Pankey were fifth in the women's 4 x 400 Meter Relay in 4:30.01.
Illinois College will travel to Monmouth College next weekend for the Fighting Scot Invitational on Feb. 10 with action getting underway at 11 a.m.
