Track & Field Teams Win Four Events at Fighting Scots Invite

MONMOUTH, Ill.
– The Illinois College track & field team competed on Saturday at the Monmouth College Fighting Scot Invite, finishing the unscored meet with four event victories. Andrea Hyde won the 60 Meter Dash for the Lady Blues, as did Greg Cross for the Blueboys. Brett Peifer was also victorious in the 400 Meter Dash and the Blueboys claimed the 4 x 200 Meter Relay.

With a time of 7.83 seconds in the finals, Hyde became the second-fastest 60 Meter Dasher in school history, leapfrogging Melissa Norville in the Illinois College record books. She continues to top the Midwest Conference charts in the event and now ranks 13th nationally. Bailey Leitschuh also took sixth in the race in 8.28 seconds.

For the Blueboys, Cross and Nife Williams went 1-2 in the 60 Meter Dash. Cross won the race in 7.03 seconds, while Williams was edged out at the finish line in 7.10 seconds. 

The tandem of Brett Peifer and Chris Moore also went 1-2 in the 400 Meter Dash. Peifer won the race in 51.08 seconds, while Moore ended with a time of 51.13 seconds. Nearly three-tenths of a second separated the Illinois College pair from the third-place finisher.

Elsewhere in the Illinois College women's record book, Ashlyn Haage tied Emma Hudspath for the fifth-fastest mile in school history, ending in 5:52.99. In the 4 x 200 Meter Relay, Joselynn Allen, Leitschuh, Alexa Walker and Hyde had the third-fastest time in school history (1:47.65) to take third. MacKenzie Heinz also had the fourth-best throw in school history in the weight throw with a distance of 45-10 (13.97 meters).

Two other finishes of note for the Blueboys happened in the triple jump where Levon Hendricks matched his PR in the triple jump with a leap of 44-2 (13.46 meters), the third-best distance in program history. The 4 x 200 Meter Relay team of Williams, Peifer, Moore and Cross also won the event with a time of 1:29.92, the third-best showing in school history and a time that tops the MWC by nearly two full seconds this season.

Illinois College also had a pair of third-place finishes in the women's high jump from Ali Pankey (4-9.75, 1.47 meters) and Sean Kisch in the men's pole vault (13-1.5, 4.00 meters).

The Blueboys and Lady Blues come back to King Fieldhouse for the last of three home indoor meets on Feb. 16, hosting the Hilltop Invite. Action begins at 6 p.m.
