JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College track & field teams got the 2018 season underway on Saturday with the Snow Bird Open in King Fieldhouse. The Blueboys finished third out of 17 teams, while the Lady Blues posted a seventh-place finish out of 17 schools at the meet.
Both teams had great finishes in the 60 Meter Dash. For the Blueboys,
Greg Cross posted a PR and had the second-fastest time in school history with a time of 7.06 seconds, taking second place overall.
Andrea Hyde won the 60 Meter Dash for the Lady Blues with a time of 7.91 seconds, just barely behind her PR of 7.89 seconds.
Chris Moore and Cross combined to finish second and third in the 200 Meter Dash, while
Brett Peifer and
Dominic Aiello each finished in the top eight. Moore was second in 23.04 seconds and Cross was third in 23.08 seconds. Peifer ended in seventh with a time of 23.57 seconds and Aiello was eighth in 23.75 seconds.
The Lady Blues also had a pair of solid finishes in the 200 Meters. Hyde ended in fourth place in 27.48 seconds and
Joselynn Allen was close behind in sixth place in 27.66 seconds.
Moore and Peifer also did well in the 400 Meter Dash, taking fourth and fifth place. Moore ended in 51.99 seconds and Peifer was fifth in 52.14 seconds.
In the 60 Meter Hurdles,
Dakota Stevens took fourth in 8.90 seconds. A hundredth of a second later,
Sean Kisch was fifth in 8.91 seconds. Kisch also posted a sixth-place finish in the men's pole vault, clearing 13-9 (4.19 meters).
Moore's big day extended into the long jump, where he took third place with a leap of 20-11.75 (6.39 meters).
Anthony Hand ended in ninth place with an effort of 20-4.5 (6.21 meters). Hand also recorded a fifth-place finish in the triple jump at 42-9.75 (13.05 meters).
Levon Hendricks was sixth in 42-9 (13.03 meters). For the Lady Blues,
Bailey Leitschuh was fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 32-9 (9.98 meters).
In the high jump,
Ali Pankey took ninth by clearing a height of 4-7.75 (1.42 meters). In the throws,
Anthony Flores was fifth in the men's weight throw with a distance of 48-2.5 (14.69 meters), the third-best effort in program history.
MacKenzie Heinz was fifth in the same event, throwing 44-5.25 (13.54 meters).
The Blueboys and Lady Blues go on the road next weekend for the Titan Open at Illinois Wesleyan University. Action gets underway at 10:30 a.m.
