Box Score
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College baseball team kept its offense rolling on Tuesday afternoon in a 7-2 win over Blackburn College. The Blueboys had all seven runs on the board by the end of the fifth inning after racking up 30 runs in a four-game series against Cornell College this past weekend. Blackburn scored a couple of late runs but were never in it the rest of the way. IC improves to 5-16 on the season.

In the first inning, Taw Fredrickson singled and went to second on a wild pitch. With two down and Fredrickson on third, a grounder to the shortstop should have ended the inning but the ball was dropped at first and Fredrickson scored for a 1-0 lead.

The next time IC was up, Seth Woollen was on second with two outs when Alex Lilly singled through the right side of the infield to make it 2-0. Lilly advanced to second on the throw home and then sped home on a Fredrickson RBI single for a 3-0 edge going into the third.

Tyler Kozaritz (1-4) had little trouble shutting down the Blackburn offense through the first three innings. Dentler Loschen took over for three innings after that and continued to stymie the Beaver offense.

In the fifth inning, the Blueboys added four more runs. With Robbie Cooper and Tim Sommerfeld in scoring position, Illinois College got two runs on a RBI single from Woollen. Later in the frame, Fredrickson hit a sacrifice fly to bring Woollen home and a wild pitch allowed Zach Seymour to race in from third.

That would be all the offense that IC would need. Brendan Barlow pitched the seventh and eighth, allowing one run. Ben Kettelkamp took over in the ninth and allowed a solo home run as Blackburn made it 7-2.

Illinois College begins a four-game series with Monmouth College with two games on the road on Friday. The Blueboys are home on April 15 for two with the Scots starting at 12 p.m.
