Box Score
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College baseball team couldn't manage much on offense against Principia College pitcher Sawyer Grow, collecting only three hits as the Panthers spoiled IC's home opener with a 7-0 win on Tuesday afternoon. Principia improves to 8-5 on the season while Illinois College drops to 3-9.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth when a walk and two straight singles off of Illinois College starting pitcher Tyler Kozaritz (0-2) gave Principia a 1-0 lead. Control issues then allowed two runners to score via wild pitches, making it 3-0.

Illinois College finally got its first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth, but nothing came of it. Principia added onto its lead against Dylan Jones in the seventh, collecting three straight hits with two outs to make it a 5-0 game. A one-out Brendan Stanfield double and an error by Principia put runners on the corners with one away in the bottom of the frame, but the Panthers held firm on defense and retired the side without allowing a run.

Principia tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning and Tim Sommerfeld was stranded on third base to end the inning for the Blueboys. Dentler Loschen retired the Panthers in order in the ninth, but Parker Tibbetts closed it out, facing the minimum in the ninth inning to complete the shutout.

Midwest Conference play begins this weekend as Illinois College faces Grinnell College in a four-game set. Start times in Grinnell, Iowa are scheduled for 12 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday.
