Lowry Stars but Lady Blues Lose Twice on Saturday

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Illinois College volleyball team lost to a pair of tough opponents on Saturday, falling in five sets to Wisconsin Lutheran after rallying from two sets down, and later taking a lead on UW-Platteville before dropping a four-setter. 

Lisa Lowry was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Augustana Viking Classic. The senior posted 51 kills in the four matches.

Illinois College will look to rebound and climb back to .500 on the season with a non-conference matchup on Sept. 21 at Blackburn College. The Lady Blues and Beavers will meet in Carlinville, Ill. that night at 7 p.m.

Wisconsin Lutheran 3, Illinois College 2
(19-25, 22-25, 25-14, 25-14, 10-15)

In the first match on Saturday, Illinois College came back after losing the first two sets to force a fifth, but the Warriors pulled it out with a 15-10 win to send the Lady Blues to a third straight defeat.

Lowry led the Lady Blues in the match with 22 kills and a .259 hitting percentage. She ended with a double-double as she added 14 digs to her work on the offensive end, and had four solo blocks and two block assists on top of it.

Rebecca Shields added nine kills for IC and both Ali Pankey and Maddie Ramsey had seven apiece. Elizabeth Ganley notched a double-double with 43 assists and 11 digs. Cheyanne Jockisch had a team-high 24 digs in the match and Brenna Garland was right behind her with 23 digs.

Wisconsin-Platteville 3, Illinois College 1
(25-20, 15-25, 22-25, 16-25)

Illinois College got off to a great start, but after the match was leveled at 1-1, a tight third set went to UW-Platteville and the Pioneers cruised in the fourth set to clinch the victory.

Pankey led IC in kills in the match, collecting 15 along with a .294 hitting percentage. Lowry had 14 kills and had another double-double with 11 digs. Garland led the Lady Blues with 26 digs and Jockisch added 12. Ganley had yet another double-double with 38 assists and 16 digs.
