ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Illinois College men's tennis team played well at times, but ultimately came up short on the road against St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Though
Miguel Vaca logged wins at both No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles, the Blueboys fell to the Eutectics by a score of 7-2 on Saturday afternoon. IC drops to 0-5 early on in the season.
At the conclusion of three doubles matches, Illinois College ended up facing a 2-1 deficit. St. Louis College of Pharmacy notched an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles and an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Vaca and
Michael Connolly helped offset those two losses by winning their match at No. 1 by a score of 8-3.
The Eutectics secured the win by claiming each of the singles matches from No. 2 through No. 6.
Elijah Rhoad, making the transition from swimming to tennis, put up a good fight at No.3 but fell by a score of 0-6, 6-4, 3-6. At No. 2, Connolly suffered a tough tiebreaker loss in the first set and couldn't recover, dropping his match by a 6-7(6), 4-6 scoreline.

Vaca earned the Blueboys a point at No. 1 singles with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 victory over Corey Thompson to provide some consolation to IC.
The Blueboys return to St. Louis on March 5 for a neutral-site match against Midland University. Action is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
