Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College baseball team came ready to play in the first inning of Wednesday's contest against Greenville College. But after taking a 2-0 lead early on, the Blueboys allowed a huge two-out rally from the Panthers in the third inning and were defeated by a score of 12-3 at Lenz Field. The Blueboys fall to 5-6 on the season with the loss.

The game started off as well as Illinois College could have asked for. Starting pitcher Luke Pannbacker made it through the first without giving up a run to Greenville, and the Blueboys got things going offensively in the bottom of the inning with a RBI single from Jonathan Schrage that brought Austin Dormire and Josh Krumwiede in for a 2-0 lead.

Greenville was able to answer back in the second inning with a single run, then Matt Jagodzinski was stranded in scoring position for IC in its turn at the plate. That set the stage for a big third inning from the Panthers. A sacrifice fly allowed one run to come into score, knotting the game at 2-2 with two outs in the frame. The next batter reached via an error however, and Greenville took full advantage. The next six batters reached on either hits or walks and Pannbacker was relieved by Kevin Schuh with the Blueboys facing a 9-2 deficit.

Schuh slammed the door on Greenville that inning by retiring his first batter faced, then held the Panthers off the scoreboard in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings as well. Illinois College plated one run in the fifth inning when Dalton Kerans knocked in Krumwiede on a sacrifice fly, but 9-3 would be as close as IC would get. The Panthers finally got to Schuh in the seventh inning and scored three more runs – two coming off a Tim Osborne home run.

Zack Hanlon closed out the seventh by retiring the two batters he faced. Jake Horve worked the eighth and the ninth innings and allowed just one hit.

Krumwiede led the offensive attack for the Blueboys with two hits and a pair of runs scored.

Illinois College concludes a five-game home stand on March 31 by hosting Principia College in a doubleheader at Lenz Field. First pitch for the opening game is scheduled for 2 p.m., with the second game to follow at approximately 5 p.m.
