Box Score MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – Soccer can often be a game when a dominating performance doesn't necessarily show itself in the final box score. And then there are days like Saturday. With
Elizabeth Wagnon leading the way with four goals and three assists, the Illinois College women's soccer team scored at will on an overmatched Iowa Wesleyan side, coming away with a 12-0 victory on the road.
It took a little bit of time for Illinois College to unlock the Iowa Wesleyan defense, but once they did, the goals came quickly. Wagnon scored just short of 10 minutes in off an assist from
Ellen Radcliffe to put IC on top. It took another 13 minutes before Wagnon had her second goal, this time coming off a feed from
Meadow Hardy. Hardy added her first career goal six minutes later, making it a 3-0 contest just short of half an hour in.
Ashley Sholmire provided the assist.
In the final 10 minutes of the first half, Radcliffe, Wagnon, Hardy and
Amber Riley all notched goals to give IC a 7-0 lead at the break. Wagnon assisted on all three goals she didn't score.
In the second half, the scoring bonanza continued with
Sarah Skaggs,
Jessica Martinez,
Alexis Chavez and Sholmire all scoring their first of the year. Wagnon added her fourth goal of the day just before the hour mark.
The Lady Blues outshot the Tigers 31-1 in the game.
Cat Solberg was there for the save on her lone action of the afternoon and picked up the victory in goal.
Now 2-0-0 on the season, Illinois College plays one more road match before making its home debut. The Lady Blues will be at Greenville College at 5 p.m. on Sept. 6.
